Hope these attach. While I was home I found time to mess with the airbrush. Calling this "custom art" might be pushing the envelope but it was fun. Al
Al, Nice job! I can feel the heat from here.

The pictures are great: I don't know what you currently do for a living but whatever it is, you're waisting your time.
You need to start painting cars or something. Perhaps you could even paint fake bathing suits on female strippers. CG

Hmmm. Al, if you chose to follow Cgoodyear's career advice, could you please post some before/after pictures of your work.
Thanks.
I just recieved my Realistic Flames kit yesterday and while the info is great I had to laugh at what I was watching. I sat there and watched Mickey learn the realistic flame technique! Usually when an instructional DVD is produced it is done by someone who has perfected the art. Don't get me wrong, he is extreamly talented and full of great advice, I just thought it was kinda wierd.
P.S. For the $40.00 it cost me it was by far the best deal for anyone who want to try their hand at custom painting.

Thanks guys.
Pteter you betchum, just as soon as I can convince to OL my "intrests" are strictly professional, plus there will be a learning curve (every pun intended).
Cars, check out his web site Mickeyharrisart.com the "Heros" truck is beyond words. He is also featured in this months Auto Art magazine. Actually Mike Lavalee developed this style which I understand was popular in the '50's Mike also has a video available. Al

I Know It's Been Awhile Since Yal Posted On This, But That Was Some Good Work You Have There Ultra Al. Have Question For You Though. What Airbrush Did You Use? I Have A Body Shop & Do A Good Bit Of Custom Work & Have Been Looking At Getting A Airbrush To Try & Add More Detail & Interest. I Have Been Considering The Iwata Eclipse Hp-sbs Or Hp-sbs Autographics, & Have Also Ordered The Flame Kit Also By M.h.
Would Like To See Some More Of You Work. Sam

Thanks, Ill try to post some soon. As for the airbrush, you nailed it the HP-SBS autographics. THe Autographics has teflon packing so uros wont hurt it and it also comes with a bottle so you can go either siphon or gravity. The Richpen 112 (.2 tip for fineer lines) and the Richpen 113 which is a clone of the Iwata HP-C is also a great deal. The Richpens come stock with teflon packing and are cheaper than the Iwatas I hear they are made in the same factory in Japan and wouldnt doubt it. I dont know if I can give a link here but if you PM me I think I have an address for smoking deals on the Richpen. Or maybe try Ebay. Good luck. AL

I bought Mickey Harris' "Realistic Flames" DVD for $60 CDN, and it came with AutoAir Color paint. I really want to get into this flame-painting, so I bought Mike Lavalee's Tru-Fire DVD from his website for $100 CDN. Mickey Harris' DVD is a joke people - Lavalee is the master. I will never be able to paint like Mickey Harris, but when both DVD's are done, all you get from Harris is a demo of him painting some high-profile autos, and "take your tiiime...", "ya gotta have gun control..." and "...always sign your name" - THAT'S ALL. He even came to my city a month ago; he demo'd his flame style and then said "Now here's the difference between a $500 paint job and a $5000 paint job-" then signed his name. Funny & ironic - yes, but...
Lavalle's DVD is the flame bible, I'm not kidding. :D Better video production values for starters, detailed explanations, and his FIRE looks photo-real, Harris' looks cheesy. Plus, Lavalee's DVD can and HAS TO BE watched over and over because he crams everything involved into it. He blows your mind everytime.
Don't waste your money; go with Lavalee's DVD.

Mike is the man on tru fire alright. In Mickys's defense, I personally don't think you will ever get the "pop" you get from water based paints that you get from urethanes, my opinion and probably based on the fact that I'm not that skilled with waterbased, I've tried, used Fantastik/ water as a reducer, over reducing, etc; still cant make AA perform consistantly like HOK does. Micky is a great artist, check out his Hero's truck and see if you don't get goose bumps. Also check out Mikes website, Killerpaint.com and check out the She Devil bike, Mike at his best IMHO. Im working on blu fire now (check out my post) next time Im going to do my loose coat in overreduced white and recoat with white pearl and use more white peral in the final highlights. Spray on, and post some of your work for us. AL

HOK, Molly Orange, Candy Red, Molly Orange, Candy Tangerine, Chrome Yellow, Pagen Gold Candy, BC26 white and Chrome Yellow mixed 1:1 for high lights, Pagen Gold Candy, Candy Red to darken areas, Passion Purple (lightly). BC 25 (or whatever color your black basecoat is) to erase overspray. Thats it quick and dirty, you really should get Mike Lavalle's DVD he explains it really well as he is actually painting it. AL

I now own 3 realistic flame DVD's: Lavalee's Tru-Fire, Realistic Flames-Craig Fraser Way, and Realistic Flames by Mickey Harris.
Mickey Harris is still reigning champion of Worst Flame Video/Biggest Waste of Money. :(
Lavalee's fire really pops! It's more photo-realistic. His DVD begs to be watched more times than you watched Star Wars. It's the most expensive, but it's totally worth it.
Craig Fraser can really talk, and his DVD is very fun to watch! He's in every airbrush magazine for a reason - he's the real deal, and he does a DVD to teach a style, not 'showboat' like Harris does. Fraser's fire looks liquid, and with 30 mins. and a lot of coffee, Fraser hammers out 2 pieces (reg. & blue flame) and uses fewer colors than any other style. Fantastic for beginners!
Mickey Harris - I may never paint as good as you, but your DVD is going for sale on eBay. $4 anyone?

I have the Mike Lavalee DVD and he claims to have designed and perfected "True Flames" as "Real Fire" wanna learn to airbrush real fire. Both methods AA and HOK are great flame learning DVD but for the matter of "Real Fire", HOK and Mike Lavalee has it all over AA and Mickey H. as far as results and technique. Any way, great flame job, keep up the good works.
