hi i want to cure larger parts that will not fit in my oven like motorcycle wheels and frames, but i dont want to build a larger oven at this time. Does anyone have experience with the infrared ovens eastwood and others sell. my first impression is that it would take forevever to cure the powder using this method since you would need to keep repositioning the lamp or part also i am concerned that the overlap of the melted to non melted areas would not be consistently smooth as you kept moving the lamp or parts. could someone that actually owns one of these lamps and has used it to do larger parts please give me the benfit of their knowledge and experience.thank you, al

I have two of them, it is very time consuming to do parts this way, you need to babysit the lights and keep moving them. I do over lap the areas a little, to keep a consistant finish. I did a mini sprint car like this and it took forever! lol

Scooter,

Have 2 questions for you?

1 You did a Mini sprint,Approx how long did it Take ,Hours Days?

2 Where you satisfied with the final results even though it took awhile.

It took maybe about 12 hours or so.

Yes, it came out very good, just way to time comsuming that I will not do another one until i build a larger oven.

O, and you must be carefull, if you get them to close at anypoint you can over heat it and take the gloss out of it. I did that and had to redue a spot.

[]Do you have to Cure all in one day or can it be done over a couple Days

You don't have to do it all in one day, i was worried about that as well, i tried it with something and it turned out fine.

I will do lots of testing first. Things like distance, lots of temp readings.

What is the temp on opposite side of tube and what is the temp in the
areas just ouside the lamp

hello, i have one of the 10x10 lamps for sale with the stand that eastwoods sells that im gettin rid of because im building an oven so i can do more stuff but they sell for 400 new, make me an offer! skibum_1260@hotmail.com
but yeah they work good as long as you get the part up to the right temp and cure it long enough it is time consumming but compared to the price of an oven or ifyou only need it once and a while its a great invesment, but i would also get a handheld temp gun so you can check your work temp while your doin it but lemme know if you interested!

how is the IR lamps for small parts? (Iknow I could stick em, R/C heli parts actually, into a old kitchen oven)
I dont have space for even a extra oven and some of my aluminum tubing/heli booms are 33" long regardless.

Id like to say hello to everyone as this is my 1st post!

is there a way to "harness" the heat from the lamps...like maybe a steel box?? :D know what i mean??

Yes, you could build a box wich would serve as an "oven" with your lamp as the element.
