View Full Version : Flange - which side is best?

I plan on attaching a patch panel using the Eastwood No Weld Panel Adhesive Replacement kit and was wondering if there is a prefered orientation for the flange? Should the flange be on the parent material (so the patch lays on top) or should it be on the patch (so the patch is installed from the backside)? Or does it matter?

In my application I have access to either side of the parent material.

Thanks,

Bill

Yes it matters. Always think about where water can sit in the flange. For example if you are replacing a lower section of a quarter panel you would want to flange the quarter and lay the patch on the flange . If you flange the patch and hold it from the inside (which I have seen done) any moisture that runs down the inside would get trapped by the flanged area.
Hope this helps, it's hard to describe but I hope you can visualize it.
