Default Safe to powder coat a grill?

I would like to powder coat my gas grill with a high temp powder. Is there any health risks in doing this?

    Hey Atrus:
Are you talking about the grill grates (where the food sits on to cook)? Or the grill housing. FYI, Many new grills (housing) come from the factory powder coated. So no issue there.
If you are talking about powder coating over the grill grates, I would not. Not because the high temp powder would fail, but because you would not be safe to eat food that was sitting directly on the powdered grates.
You might consider ceramic coating instead. Many new grill grates are already ceramic coated.
    Good Luck

If you make sure the grile isn't in use at the time there shouldn't be a problem.

Seriously, if your not coating the grile racks (where the food sets) there isn't a problem. You may want to look at ceramic only because the temps on the bottom (where the coals goe) will get very very hot and the powder may not hold up there.

I was talking about the racks. So I can just use a ceramic coating to coat them? Is there a special kind that is food friendly, or can I just use the same stuff I would use for manifolds and headers?
