Default Are Spray Can Primers Compatible With Urethane Paint?

I think most ordinary aerosol spray can primers you find in auto parts stores, ect. are probably lacquer based. Would they be compatible with urethane paint? That is, would the new urethane paints adhere okay to these primers? The paint cans and the manufacturers web sites don't say. Thanks.

It's not necessarily the case with every rattle can primer or paint, but sometimes the solvents in a catalyzed material like a 2k primer or sealer, or even solvent base coats or clear coat may end up attacking the non-catalyzed material (spray can paint). You would end up with lifting and bubbling and all kinds of problems that would make you start over. So, as a general rule, no they are not compatible. It's best to stick with automotive paints wherever possible when working on the exterior of your car.
