Thread: Knowing when to walk away

  1. Knowing when to walk away

Hello Kevin, i am asking you this question because you are a Mustang guy. I have just bought a 1968 Mustang Coupe for 1700.00 with no engine or trans, it was an I6 so it really has no value. I gave it a good look over before i bought it and the body is sound but the floors needed a couple patches. When i got to stripping the interior out i quickly found out how bad it was and now i dont know what to do. Heres some pictures

Should i run away and try to recoupe some of my money?? What would be a good asking price for this rusted roller???
Thank you for any advise you can give me, i know your a very busy man.

WOW! That's what is normally knows as a "Parts Car" sorry to say. There's just too much that's rotted out structurally, and rust is like an iceburg.... you're only really seeing a third of it.. The floors are one thing, but where they attach to the frame is gone also. I'd look for a solid car as a project vehicle and keep that one. No kidding... the biggest mistake I've ever made in a restoration project is NOT HAVING A PARTS CAR... it gets very expensive and time consuming not having all the little clips and bolts that are Ford and Mustang specific. I know money doesnt grow on trees, but I'd keep it, use what I could, and Ebay the rest like steering box, window cranks, brake parts, fenders, doors deck lid, etc... If there are rusty places or dents on your removable panels you can fix them, get the parts into a good primer, and ebay the heck out of them as "restored" parts. (just make sure you do a good job...) this will recoup some of the costs of both cars.

    Good luck,

    KT.
