  1. Unhappy aluminum, want mirror, but get micro-scratches

I'm trying to put a mirror shine on aluminum using a 6" Eastwood loose cotton buff with white rouge turning at 3450 RPM. But no matter what technique I try, the parts always have micro-scratches. I've tried light, medium, and high pressure on the wheel, minimal compound, moderate compound, too...

  2. Sharkhide Coating

I am about to refinish some Mustang wheels that have a machine finish but the clear coat is terrible. So I was thinking about stripping them and coating them with the Sharkhide stuff. Just wondering if anyone has used it. http://www.eastwood.com/sharkhide-aluminum-protectant-quart.html Barry

I've got a '67 Honda that I'm restoring and I'm having an impossible time with the wheels. I bought new rims and spokes and I'm attempting to polish the inner hubs/drums and brake panels. When I disassembled these it looked like they were possibly chromed aluminum? They were in bad shape, so I...

Hi All. I'm new to the posting forums. I am trying to polish the aluminum fuel tanks on a Peterbuilt truck. I am using basically a right angle hand held 7 inch buffer. I purchased the hard compound "bricks" to use and I'm pretty sure i'm using the wrong compund here. When I try to apply the...

  8. Metabo GE 700 or GE 900 for portable polishing?

I have been using my pneumatic die grinder with 4" buffing wheels to polish the lips of deep dish auto wheels, but the grinder lacks torque. I'm now considering an electric model such as the Metabo GE 700 or Makita GD0800C (7000 rpm and up) or the Metabo GE 900 (2500 - 6000 rpm). It seems like...

  9. Clear coating

What do you guys recommend for clear coating after polishing? One source I read recommended clear lacquer. Looks like Eastwood sells their own product. I also have access to powdercoating, but some of the pieces are longer than the oven I have.

  12. Red face Newbie question - Rouge

Years ago I bought the Stainless Buffing Kit. I (finally) needed to use it and could not figure out how to get the rouge out!! The metal bottom doesn't push up.... the plastic cap was on all these years. I have never seen a paste-type, only the "stick-type" that melts onto the buffing wheel. So...

I have aluminum trim around the windows of my 1978 Coupe Deville that has a white haze on it. I fine it very difficult to remove. I would like to polish the trim on the car without having to remove it. Any ideas as to what might restore the original luster to these pieces?

  18. Question Proper use of AutoSol

I recently restored some stainless steel trim for my 57 Chevy. After going through the 3 step buffing process, to which the pieces came out very shiney and almost scratch free, I used AutoSol on an old cotton T-shirt to shine them up somemore. To my dismay though, the pieces dulled out a bit. Is...
